Montana Statewide Independent Living Council
The Montana Statewide Independent Living Council’s mission is to “Promote self-determination and full inclusion of people with disabilities in Montana.”
The Montana Statewide Independent Living Council advocates for the independent living needs of people with disabilities so that they can enjoy the same rights and opportunities as all Montana citizens.
It does this by developing and following the guidelines of a Statewide Plan for Independent Living, which contains the policies and recommendations for independent living service delivery across Montana.
Most MTSILC members are people with disabilities, and additional representatives include: a Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation director, a Center for Independent Living director, a representative from Disability Employment and Transitions, a youth representative and a representative from other state agencies that provide services for individuals with disabilities.
The MTSILC partners with the Vocational Rehabilitation Council and Centers for Independent Living to advocate, expand disability services, provide disability education and assist in the development of future disability leaders through programs like the Montana Youth Leadership Forum (MYLF).
